That we won!!!
It's still sinking in.
And I still have only about 2/3 of my voice working.

You bloody beauty..
I can't believe it's been 2 weeks since I last posted.
Anyway, I am so happy, ecstatic and whatever you want to say that my Hawk boys won the GF yesterday.
There were a few pubs in town showing it - we tried to get into the pump & tap but even an hr and a half before the game started they were packed to the rafters and only letting people in if someone left. As there was 7 of us, we decided it might take us a long time to get in. 6 of us, including myself were going for the Hawks and Nick was going for the Cats.
A guy came out of the pump & tap and told us that another bar - Melissa's - was showing the game and that there was almost nobody there. So we headed over there and managed to get seats right in front of the big screen TV. That was awesome, except they wouldn't turn down the music so we could just listen to the commentary - bastards!!
Anyway, after quite a few drinks - including a shot of tequila (thanks Timmy) - and 4 quarters of amazing football - we won!! Both teams played really well - Geelong absolutely made us earn our win and if we had lost, I would have been glad that it was to Geelong. They have played such outstanding football this year, it almost seems a shame they couldn't pull it all together on the most important day of the year. Having said that, of course I'm stoked that we won!!
It was in the last quarter with about 9 mins to go that we lost the satellite picture. I was devastated, I was pretty sure by that time that we would win but you never write Geelong off, Tim went up to the bar and they were saying that it wasn't them, that it was the satellite/Foxtel that was the problem. I was beside myself, I thought I was going to miss the last 8 mins of us winning our first GF in 17 yrs. But, with approx 5 1/2 mins to go, the picture came back on.
Everyone in there counted down the last 10 seconds and everyone was hugging me and congratulating me, as if I'd played in the game - mind you I felt like I had. Out of everyone there, a few people were going for Geelong and a few were going for the Hawks but I was the only one that was a true supporter of one of the teams playing so everyone made a big deal about it and I cried - yes, I cried.
I'm so happy for Crawf, that we were finally able to give him a GF medal to go with his Brownlow, Best & Fairests, All Australian and everything else he has achieved in his outstanding career. If he retires now, nobody could blame him and I wish him all the best if he does.
Unfortunately, the pub shut at 1am - they let us watch the end of the game - finished about 1.15 I think but as soon as it was over, they turned the TV off and chucked us out so I didn't get to see the medal presentations or the Norm Smith or anything. Thank god for one of my absolute angels who was watching the game in New Zealand and sent me a text letting me know the Luke Hodge won the Norm Smith - very well deserved and thank you my angel - you know who you are.
So, that is the story of the GF for this year - Hawthorn 2008 AFL Premiers!!!!!
Go my boys..

Staying...
Well, the decision has been made.
I have a new job which gives me 2 forms of employment and money earning over winter, so I am going to stay.
My ticket is valid for 12 months, so at this stage I should be home end of March '09. If that doesn't happen, then I'll have to buy a new ticket once the time comes to go home.
At this stage it looks like I won't have to sell my car, which I didn't really want to do anyway, but that might change in the future.
I am really looking forward to giving snowboarding and skiing a try - hopefully I will love one of them..
Will keep you updated with photos and news of what's happening on the hill... LOL
Oh, it snowed again overnight - just a little and just up high - Cascade had fresh snow on it this morning that wasn't there yesterday afternoon. Hopefully this means that it is going to snow early this year.

Highland Games..
So, the Canmore Highland Games were on last Sunday - the day after it snowed.
It was amazing seeing the pipe and drum bands. We missed the heavy sports cause I had to work in the morning but considering how cold it turned out to be, I didn't mind only being there half the day. Although I would have loved to see the caber toss, but never mind..
The best part of the day was the massed pipe and drum bands at the end. The marched onto the arena and to the end we were standing at and back again. They brought them on in 3 groups and the middle group were right in front of us so they got to our end and the guys with the bagpipes were literally a couple of feet from us.
After all 3 groups had come in, they all marched and played together -in all I think there were about 15 bands. When you have that many bands a couple of feet from you, all playing their bagpipes and drums, it's mighty loud but it was awesome. I didn't recognise the first 2 songs they played, then they played Scotland the Brave - probably the most recognisable bagpipe song you will hear. I thought of my grandmother who loved these sorts of things and thought she would be proud that I was there and listening to it and loving it.
Lastly they played amazing grace and I've heard that played countless times - not on bagpipes though - and when they come down to the last part where they play the amazing grace bit again, it was a single solitary piper and it was just magical. I know to people who haven't heard them in person that might sound odd, but you just have to experience it.
On another note, I got an email from a girl I worked with - not too closely - but she used to bring me work around when I was at Sigma at least once a day - and she is moving to Banff and Max told her that I was here, so she emailed me to find out if I could keep an eye out for some accommodation for her - and give her some tips on things here. So, that should be good, even though I don't know her that well, to have someone I know from home here - besides Jason, will be good.
Anyway, on that note, I'm going to shove off, cause I think I've used up my $5 by now.
